Zumba In Edgewater

Zumba, Zumba, Zumba. That’s all I’ve been hearing from people lately. "You’ve gotta try it, the dancing is so much fun." Yeah like hell I would, I haven’t been able to dance since my disco days in my 20s. Yet, Zumba kept showing up everywhere I went. I saw it at the club constantly, I got pamphlets in the mail for it, I even saw an infomercial for it on the TV inside Bagels 4 U. So, obviously (since I’m writing this blog) I eventually said screw it and went to relive my dancing days.

TRX Training

TRX training is a unique workout routine at Cando. Unlike most other workouts, which incorporate lifting weights to strengthen various muscle groups, TRX uses only your own body weight. While this might make it sound like it’s a very light workout, I can assure it’s not: TRX is used by all kinds of people, from pro athletes to senior citizens. In addition, it’s a very simple setup. All that is used is two straps with handles suspended from a bar above you (see picture for better clarification). This setup makes it so that gravity is the only resistance acting upon you.

Polar Cardio DX Spin Class

I’ve been spinning for almost a year now and I still felt out of my element when I tried Spin Polar Cardio GX. I think what threw me off the most were the wireless heart rate monitors that they gave to everybody. This was an interesting contraption that was programed according to your age. You had to wrap it tightly around your body, just below the bra line. Once that was set up, it would send your heart rate wirelessly via bluetooth to a computer set up at the front of the spinning room.

Giving Yoga a try

With the dawn of 2012, I made it my New Year’s Resolution to try yoga. This was due to several reasons: I constantly felt tight in my muscles, I was constantly stressed from my job and home life, and my doctor said that my blood pressure was too high and slowly increasing. A friend of mine told me that Hatha Yoga would solve, or at least alleviate, most of these problems. So, I decided to try it at CANDO one day to see if it did help.

TRX Training

My general feeling about weight training is that everyone should learn

> the basic barbell exercises. There is simply no substitute for the

> practicality of adding weight to a bar on exercises that train your

> body's natural movement patterns.

>

> Once proper technique has been learned and a good base of strength has

> been established, incorporating other methods of exercise is a great

> idea.

>

> One such method of exercise is TRX Straps.

Spinning In Short Hills

I’ve always been a runner. I would say the best time of my life was in high school and college, when I was on the track team. So, understand how devastated I was when I sprained my ankle running in the reservation. My doctor told me I couldn’t run for 6 weeks. After about a week or so of feeling sorry for myself, my friend suggested I try spinning at the club. I honestly had no idea what it was other than that it was a bunch of people on exercise bikes in a small room, but it beat sitting around all day. I decided to take the 8:30 on Tuesday.
